Happy Birthday Papa – Marbled Card
April is the month of birthdays for us. First it’s Papa’s then mine. Due to this world-wide lockdown and situation due to spread of deadly corona virus, we are stuck indoors and won’t be able to even order a cake this year.
But birthday needs to be special, so little one volunteers to make a birthday card for Papa.
So I took out our craft box and started fishing out stuff to make a pretty birthday greeting card for the man who lives in our hearts.
And there, my boy spots a patterned paper which we made while doing an experiment with Shaving Foam – Clouds & Rain.
You need to see the below experiment to understand how this pattern was formed.
- Shaving foam
- Food colors
- Glass jar
- Thick white chart paper (small piece)
Wasn’t that beautiful and mind-blowing! Did you notice the 2 jars in the video? Because little one was so amazed that wanted to do again.
How to make marbled paper?
Step 1: Now Once we are done with the experiment and enjoyed the penetration or rain of colors though shaving foam clouds in the glass jar, just mix the colors on the foam with a pointed knife of fork.

The thick layer of shaving foam has colors on the upper side and the foam is till the edge of the jar. So i just made a pattern sort of by gently mixing the colors with a fork – in a zig-zag way.
You know you can actually make this marble pattern on a paper without the whole experiment as well, but then it will be just marbling of paper, and adding it up with the shaving foam experiment, it’s two-in-one – science experiment and craft. Plus kid can enjoy some messy play once you are done marbling the papers.
How does that look? Gorgeous right!
Step 2: Now just gently touch the paper on the upper layer of that marbled shaving foam and pick it up. You can make multiple marbled papers by just mixing the colors after each marbled paper – so each one has different pattern.
Step 3: Scrape off the extra foam gently with a knife or fork by keeping the paper on another surface.
Step 4: Let it dry completely. Takes time. Don’t rush. The outcome is going to be gorgeous when it’s dried.

NOTE: The size of paper I took was just the one that can sit on the edge of my jar. Keep that in mind while cutting the chartpaper.
Now if you noticed the time of the above instagram post is about 9-10 months ago, you would know what kind of a hoarder I am ;). Well I would say just couldn’t thought of a better use of it until now.
And here is out final outcome – a pretty Marbled Birthday Card for Papa.

Stuck the marbled heart on a folded piece of cardboard so that it looks risen up -just for an effect. You may stick it to the paper directly or even cut the shape of heart and write a message inside.
Added tiny foam glittery hearts on son’s demand. The hand-writing is clearly of the 5-year old.
Did you find this cute enough to try?
Have you tried the shaving foam clouds & rain experiment?
